Peoples Exhibition

The exhibition 'The Punjab: Moving Journeys' was developed in partnership with members of the UK Punjab Heritage Association, the Muslim Women's Welfare Association, Cartwright Hall Young Ambassadors and the North Hertfordshire Sikh Education Council.

Photographs of India and Pakistan from within the Societys collections were used as the inspiration for creative workshops with a youth group from the North Hertfordshire Sikh Education Council in May 2008. The group used the archival images to explore issues surrounding their own identity and aspirations. A small selection of quotes from participants are shown below.

North Hertfordshire Sikh Education Council Youth Group

'To me aspirations mean ambition. I believe aspirations depend on inspiration. I aspire to be successful in the world.' Jasdeep

'For me aspirations are about what you want and what you can achieve.' Jamie

'For me 'home' or 'roots' are something passed down through the family... like an heirloom.' Kieran
