The exhibition 'Seeing China: Community Reflections' was developed in partnership with members of the Soho Family Centre, King's Cross Neighbourhood Centre and the Camden Chinese Community Centre. Members of groups viewed archive materials relating to China as part of drama based workshops with Kumiko Mendl of the Yellow Earth Theatre Company and Veronica Needa of the True Heart Theatre Company. A small taster of the written work they produced is provided below.
Tsarong's Party, 1938
'Tsarong's party was like nothing i've experienced before. The environment and furnishings were so lavish. Everyone that attended wore their best evening wear. The food and wine were quite intoxicating and very different to our more traditional foods. Some of the most influential people in the region were present and it was my chance to make some serious connections to further my business. Though everyone was laughing and smiling, the atmosphere wasn't all that comfortable. The conversation, though friendly, was clearly centred around impressing everyone else. I'm always so conscious of their thoughts and opinions, but nevertheless i feel tonight's event went well and look forward to attending other similar events'.
